Supporting Documents for Applications for Exemption

In order to complete your online application for exemption, you are also required to submit all supporting documents in softcopy via our online enquiry form Contact Us @ OneMinLaw) within 7 calendar days of the submission date of the online application. Otherwise, your application will be deemed to have lapsed and you will be required to submit a new application with payment of the applicable administrative fees.Therefore, you should only submit your online application for exemption when all your supporting documents are ready.

The documents required to be submitted as part of an application for exemption can be found below:

(A) ADMISSION TO THE SINGAPORE BAR

1. Proof of present citizenship.
2. Proof of Singapore Permanent Residence (if applicable).
3. If you have been offered a place to read law at an approved university and are seeking advance approval, please submit an offer letter from the university.
4. Degree certificate(s) for your law degree and other degree(s).
5. Academic transcripts for your law degree for each academic year.
6. If your law degree is from a university in Australia, New Zealand or the United States of America, please submit a letter from your university:
   1. Stating your ranking in terms of academic performance, as compared to the same batch who have been conferred the degree; or
   2. Confirming that it does not rank its graduates.
7. If your law degree is any of the following:
   1. An accelerated course;
   2. A dual or combined degree; or
   3. A degree not listed in the Schedules to the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules;
   please submit a letter from your university listing the required law subjects (including electives) of the law degree that you undertook or will be undertaking, as compared to that of the approved law degree of your university and indicating whether there are any material or substantial difference in the contents of the compulsory law modules between the degrees.
8. Proof that you have passed Part A of the Singapore Bar Examinations.
9. If you are qualified to practise in a country or jurisdiction other than Singapore, please submit:
   1. Certificate(s) of admission / registration / authorisation;
   2. Current practising certificate(s) to practise law in each country or jurisdiction in which you are qualified to practise; and/or
   3. Certification of Registration as a Foreign Lawyer in Singapore
10. A letter of offer for a practice training contract at a law practice in Singapore or an offer of employment in Singapore.
11. If you are unable to obtain 6 months of "relevant legal training" and/ or "relevant legal practice or work" within a continuous period of 8 months, and/or complete the practice training contract within a continuous period of 8 months, please submit:
    1. Supporting documents in relation to your reasons for being unable to fulfil the requirement(s); and
    2. A letter from the Singapore Institute of Legal Education verifying the shortfall of your training.
12. Letter(s) of employment as a law practitioner or legal counsel, at: (i) one or more law practices in Singapore or elsewhere; OR (ii) as a legal counsel in a corporation or other entity the equity securities of which are listed on the official list of a securities exchange in Singapore or elsewhere, indicating:
    1. The exact duration (dd/mm/yyyy - dd/mm/yyyy) you were employed there;
    2. Whether you were employed on a full-time or part-time basis, and if part-time, details of the arrangement;
    3. Position(s) you held and the department(s) in which you worked;
    4. The nature of the legal work in which you were engaged;
    5. Contact details (including telephone number and email address) of a partner or director of the law practice or organisation who is willing to verify this information; and
    6. Proof that the corporation or entity is listed on the official list of a securities exchange in Singapore or elsewhere (if applicable).
13. Reference(s) from your employer(s) in relation to your legal skills and experience (preferably including one from your current employer).
14. Certified English translation of documents enclosed which are not in English.

(B) FOREIGN PRACTITIONER EXAMINATIONS

1. Proof of present citizenship.
2. Proof of Singapore Permanent Residence (if applicable).
3. Degree certificate(s) for your law degree and other degree(s).
4. Academic transcripts for your law degree for each academic year.
5. If you are qualified to practice in a country or jurisdiction other than Singapore, please submit the following:
   1. Certificate(s) of admission / registration / authorisation;
   2. Current practising certificate(s) to practise law in each country or jurisdiction in which you are qualified to practise; and/or
   3. Certification of Registration as a Foreign Lawyer in Singapore.
6. A letter of offer for employment in Singapore
7. Reference(s) from your employer(s) in relation to your legal skills and experience (preferably including one from your current employer).
8. Certified English translation of documents enclosed which are not in English.
