With online piracy becoming an increasing global concern, there is a need for each country to review their legal framework in order to address the issue. In Singapore, a recent study commissioned by rights holders found that there is a high level of consumption of online copyright infringing (“pirated”) content. This adversely affects Singapore’s creative sector and the livelihoods of people working in these industries. It also undermines our reputation as an economy that respects the protection of intellectual property.
SMS has outlined the legislative amendments that the Government has taken to enable rights holders to protect their rights more effectively against pirate websites through judicial measures, in the attached note below on Copyright Bill.
