Official Visit to India by Minister K Shanmugam and Senior Minister of State Edwin Tong

Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam and Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Law and SMS for Health Edwin Tong are on an official visit to India from 28 to 31 August 2019.

Minister Shanmugam will meet his counterparts from the Indian Ministry of Law and Justice to strengthen Singapore-India cooperation.

As part of the visit, Minister Shanmugam and SMS Tong will also attend the Singapore Symposium 2019, held in Mumbai on 28 August and in New Delhi on 31 August. Organised by the Institute of South Asian Studies, the Singapore Symposium is a platform for Singapore political leaders to engage Indian civil servants, businessmen and academics on issues of mutual concern. On 28 August in Mumbai, Minister Shanmugam will deliver remarks on the economic opportunities in India and ASEAN. On 31 August in New Delhi, he will deliver remarks on geopolitical developments and the threat of religious extremism.

Minister Shanmugam will also speak at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) India Summit on 30 and 31 August 2019. The two-day SIAC India Summit will bring together more than 300 members of the judiciary and international arbitration community, to discuss the future of investor-state dispute settlement in Asia, developments in investment and international commercial arbitration in India, and the use of institutional procedures to deal with emerging challenges in international arbitration.

On 29 August, SMS Tong will speak at the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) Specialist Mediator Appointment Ceremony where mediators from India will be appointed as SIMC specialist mediators.

Minister Shanmugam and SMS Tong will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Law.
