Dr Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, will visit Singapore from 22 to 23 August 2016 at the invitation of Minister for Home Affairs and Law Mr K Shanmugam, under the inaugural Intellectual Property Distinguished Visitor Programme.

The Programme brings eminent global intellectual property (IP) experts to Singapore to share their views with our business and government leaders. This enables us to gain insights into global IP developments and trends, their impact on Singapore, and how to adapt the strategic use of IP to thrive in this dynamic environment.

During his visit, Dr Gurry will share his insights on how intellectual property can foster innovation and enhance the commercialisation of research and development initiatives.

Dr Gurry will call on Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and Senior Minister of State for Law & Finance Ms Indranee Rajah. He will also meet with the Chief Executive of the National Research Foundation Prof Low Teck Seng, Chairman of A*STAR Mr Lim Chuan Poh, Chief Executive of SPRING Singapore Mr Poon Hong Yuen, and Executive Director of DesignSingapore Council Mr Jeffrey Ho.

Dr Gurry’s visit also coincides with the launch of IP Week @ SG 2016 by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore on 23 August 2016, where he will be a keynote speaker addressing a global audience of business leaders and IP professionals.
