Official Visit to Shanghai by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong SC

1.    Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong SC made an official visit to Shanghai, China, from 7 to 9 November 2024.

2.    During the visit, Minister Tong attended the 6th Shanghai International Arbitration Forum and the Opening Ceremony of Shanghai Arbitration Week 2024 on 8 November, where he delivered an address. The Shanghai Arbitration Week 2024 is organised by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice, the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai, and the Shanghai Arbitration Association.

3.    In his speech, Minister reaffirmed the strong Singapore-Shanghai bilateral relations, and emphasised the importance of collaboration between countries to support global trade. He also shared how Singapore could support businesses in resolving their cross-border commercial disputes. 4.    Minister also visited the Singapore Pavilions at the China International Import Expo and hosted a breakfast roundtable with in-house counsel based in Shanghai during his trip.

5.    Minister Tong was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Law.
